Documents not following this standard may have MRZs that do not conform to the expected format, so they may fail even before getting to the NFC reading step.

Will it be possible to use a driver's license or internal passport in the near future for KYC?

Russian internal passports are quite specific to Russia, so most likely not. From what I understand, there were plans to turn it into an actual ID card with a chip, which we could support, but for now, it sounds like this plan has been shelved.
Driving licenses are based on an entirely different standard, so it’s not in our current roadmap, but something we may look into eventually, as driving licenses are also the primary method of identification in the US
