Hi! Chinese ID cards do not follow the standard that we need for them to work. Chinese passports do, however.

As for broader support, China is not necessarily representative of the rest of the world as nearly all newly issued European national IDs follow the necessary standard, and so do some national IDs from Latin American, African, and other Asian countries
